IABC Looking to Open in Birmingham

IABC BirminghamInterstate All Battery Center, a division of Interstate Batteries, is looking to open stores in Birmingham as part of expanding its presence in the Southeast.

The company said in a news release it is actively recruiting retail-minded franchisees to open its stores, which each reportedly average $850,000 a year.

"Our stores fill energy needs for every purpose - from power books to power tools, laptops to hearing aids," said Kent Chapin, IABC’s senior marketing manager. "We sell more than 15 million batteries a year and with that kind of demand, franchising our proven product is the obvious next step for growth."

The company recently added auto install bays to its stores, allowing for quick battery replacement.

According to its Web site, Dallas-based Interstate Battery is a $650 million privately held company and was recently voted 2007 U.S. Automotive Technicians’ Choice Award for best batteries.
