Get the lead out! (And the nickel and the lithium … )

31119.png Today, November 15, 2010, is America Recycles Day, organized by Keep America Beautiful. The organization is using today to encourage everyone to recycle more both at home and at work.

Interstate All Battery Center reminds you that batteries can – and should – be recycled. In fact, Interstate Batteries is one of the largest battery recyclers in the world.

And you don’t have to wait for America Recycles Day or Earth Day. Interstate All Battery Center accepts your household batteries for recycling year-round!

Lead-acid batteries

The humble car battery is the most highly recycled consumer product – 97 percent of all lead-acid batteries are recycled, compared to just 55 percent of aluminum soda and beer cans. logo_ibrCompanywide, Interstate Batteries has been recycling batteries since 1952, and last year alone we returned more than a billion pounds of lead-acid batteries to government-regulated smelters across the United States.

Most of the collection of lead-acid batteries for recycling is done by service centers that perform battery replacements. If you perform a replacement on your own, you can still bring your old battery in for recycling at any Interstate All Battery Center location.

Look what a recycled battery can become:
